Common Diseases of Our Buddy

This article discusses some common diseases of your dogs. Each disease will be deeply presented so far. Now let’s start the journey to help your pets healthier!

1. RABIES (Bệnh dại)

It’s caused by a virus that is transmitted by the bite of an infected animal. Death is common. All pets should be vaccinated for rabies because it can be transmitted to humans by contact with an infected animal. Rabies is always fatal!

Recovery: If your pet has been bitten

  • Immediately consult your veterinarian.
  • Dogs that are currently vaccinated should be revaccinated immediately and observed for a period (normally 45 days or more).
  • Unvaccinated dogs should be checked and immediately placed in strict isolation for 6 months and vaccinated 1 month before being released.
  • If bitten by a rabid animal, other animals should be euthanatized immediately.

2. DISTEMPER (Bệnh Carré)

This disease is caused by a virus that attacks every tissue in the body.

Symptoms: fever, pneumonia, runny eyes and nose and diarrhea.

Recovery: With treatment, the dog may make a temporary recovery, followed by even more serious symptoms. Death is common. If a dog does recover, it may be disabled with nervous disorders.

3. HEPATITIS (Viêm gan)

It is a viral disease transmitted by urine or feces of  infected animals. It affects the liver, kidneys and blood vessels. Hepatitis is most serious in very young animals.

Symptoms: high fever, depression and lack of appetite.

Recovery: blood transfusions and intensive care, but often not successful.

4. LEPTOSPIROSIS (Viêm thận)

This disease is caused by bacteria spread through contact with nasal secretions, urine, or saliva of infected animals. The disease also can infect humans. It infects the liver and kidneys.
Symptoms: fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and jaundice.
Recovery: antibiotics, intensive care, and intravenous fluid therapy.
5. PARVOVIRUS (Bệnh Parvo)
Without immunization, an afflicted animal’s intestinal tract is attacked by the virus. This is one of the most dangerous diseases.

Symptoms: Vomiting, bloody diarrhea, bleeding, and collapse.

Recovery: Prompt veterinary care is essential to recovery but still there is a great likelihood of death.

6. KENNEL COUGH (Ho cũi chó)

This disease may be caused by one of several viruses, bacteria and  can spread rapidly through a kennel of dogs.

Symptoms: chronic, dry, hacking cough.

Recover: Usually not life-threatening, but it may progress to severe pneumonia in young pups or old dogs.

7. LYME’S DISEASE

It is a disease transmitted by ticks. It can cause heart disease, kidney disease and nerve disorders. Left untreated, the disease can leave your pet with a lifetime problem.

Symptoms:  fever, acute onset of lameness with no history of trauma, and arthralgia. Not easy to detect for because of a variety of symptoms.

Recovery: antibiotics, run blood and kidney test ASAP.
